Why Stock Market is Down in September 2021?

September 2021 has been the volatile month so far and historically it is not a good month for the stock market. This is due to the end of summer and people start to rethink about the next quarter. Historically, the economy sees a slowdown in airlines tickets, hotel tickets, and theme parks in September.

“Since 1950, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) has averaged a decline of 0.8%, while the S&P 500 has averaged a 0.5% decline during the month of September.”

The NASDAQ is down 1.41% in September 2021, as of the publication of this article.

Due to the following major changes, September seems to be a slow month.

  • End of Summer
  • Back to school
  • Back to work/office
  • Low vacations and travels

The airline and curse line stocks has been down-trending in the same pattern since early September 2021.
