Amazon announced on Friday that it will create over 4,000 permanent positions in the United Kingdom by 2022, despite a wave of employment layoffs in the digital industry. According to the corporation, the hiring drive would increase Amazon’s permanent staff in the UK to more than 75,000 people.

John Boumphrey, Amazon’s U.K. country manager, stated “We’re continuing to invest in talent right across the U.K… People join us not just for the wide variety of roles, great pay and benefits, but for the career development opportunities we provide.” He also stated that “Amazon has invested billions of pounds across the UK, enabling it to be one of the UK’s most significant job creators in recent years”.
